Marry In Haste, Repent At Leisure

Boy howdy, are things confusing in NFA-Land right now. Early this morning, Brandon Herrera bought a can from Silencer Shop using just a Form 4473 rather than the traditional Form 4. Now every gun owner and their dog is looking forward to buying a short-barreled rifle (SBR), short-barreled shotgun or suppressor without the extra paperwork and fingerprints, and I can’t say I blame them. I have a few AR-15 pistols that are SCREAMING out to be turned into rifles, as is my MAC-5 MP5 “pistol.”

But I’m not going to do that yet. Things are too unsettled right now. First off, the injunctions (yes, injunctions, plural… The NRA is on the case now as well) cover just the plaintiffs in the case, which are members of both the NRA and the Texas Rifle and Pistol Association for the Jensen case and members of the GOA and customers of Silencer Shop for the lawsuit they filed.

And keep in mind this is an injunction, which can be overturned. You don’t have access to Brandon Herrera’s legal resources if things go south, so for now, I’d stay on the sidelines until more legal hurdles have been crossed on this. Figure it out for yourselves, don’t take my advice on this, that’s what lawyers are for.

But it is nice to think about. I mean, if the NFA goes away for this, I could turn an 80% frame for a G17 into an SBR and use it with my Recover Tactical stabilizer for the ultimate “home defense away from home” gun.

Which would be great.
