Naturally Clean

For those of you who missed it, I (finally) sent out an email covering what was going on with my both my firearms training and my writing endeavors.

One of the things I mentioned was that I am about 1/4 done with “Absolution,” the follow-on novel to “Salvation.” One thing I’m noticing as I’m writing this is that the language I’m using has significantly fewer cuss words in it. I’m not intentionally holding back on using spicier language, as I am a firm believer in using the right language for the right moment. A cartel member is not going to say “Gosh darn it!” and a racist bigot ain’t gonna use the politically correct words to describe minorities.

The first bit of this novel, however, is pretty clean, and honestly, I currently don’t see a reason to turn it blue. I’m not intentionally holding back, it’s just that curse words didn’t seem right to use so far, which got me thinking… “Salvation” is written from the perspective of a rough man coming to grips with his belief system. In “Absolution,” however, he’s had a few months to marinate in that faith, and it is changing him. I never once said “Okay, Kevin, let’s tone it down now,” but yet, I did, because that’s what the story demanded.

Which is kinda cool.
